Windows XP

This will help you use Hibernation and Standby modes to conserve power and reduce unnecessary hardware usage. For instance, both monitor and hard drive can be placed into a low power state instead of shutting down the computer

To Configure Hibernation and Standby modes:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Performance and MaintenancePower Options.
  4. Click the Hibernate tab and check the Enable hibernate box.
  5. Click the Power Schemes tab. Choose the time options for Standby and Hibernation modes to begin.

To Awaken a Computer:

  • For Standby mode – press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse.
  • In Hibernation mode – press the power button once (quickly).

Note: Computers take longer to wake up from Hibernate mode.
