How-To use Hibernation and Standby in Windows®
XP
This will
help you use Hibernation and Standby modes to conserve power and
reduce unnecessary hardware usage. For instance, both monitor
and hard drive can be placed into a low power state instead of
shutting down the computer
To Configure Hibernation and Standby modes:
Click Start.
Click Control Panel.
Click Performance and Maintenance,
Power Options.
Click the Hibernate tab and check the
Enable hibernate box.
Click the Power Schemes tab. Choose the
time options for Standby and Hibernation modes to begin.
To Awaken a Computer:
For Standby mode - press any key on the
keyboard or move the mouse.
In Hibernation mode - press the power
button once (quickly).
Note: Computers take longer to wake up from
Hibernate mode.
