| When
running "System File Checker" in Windows 98 the file "USER.EXE"
is corrupted when this file is checked.
Procedure:
The following procedure will rebuild the "USER.EXE" file during
the file checking
process in "System File Checker"
Boot the computer into Windows 98
Click "Start/Programs/Accessories/System Information.
Click the "Tools" menu.
Click "System File Checker"
This will bring up a window for "System File Checker".
In the field "Select an option and click Start" click "Scan for
altered files" and
click "Start"
During the operation of "System File Checker" the file "USER.EXE"
will be flagged as corrupted. In the field "What do you want to
do? "choose " Update verification information" and click "OK".
DO NOT choose "Restore
file", this option may change the user.exe settings and cause
the computer not to boot properly.
Once "System File Checker" finishes click "OK" and close "System
File Checker".
Restart Windows 98. When "System File Checker" is run the file
user.exe will be repaired successfully. |
